Using the eye dropper tool with making hard mask
This tip may have been covered in Joels training. When making hard mask and using the rectangular tool to subtract areas from the mask , I use the eye dropper tool to see if the area to be subtracted is completely black. I check the area and determine the areas that are 99% black and subtract it. I have found I was subtraction areas I thought were black but we not. This is also helpful in not over applying the "amplify" feature to the mask area leading to possible bad edges.
